- Californian Yachts was founded in the 1970s by Jule Marshall and Myrna Elliott who revolutionized the trawler and motor yacht industry
- Wellcraft Marine purchased Californian in 1982, expanding production and retaining the Californian brand name.
- Jule Marshall repurchased Californian in 1987. Then shortly afterwards sold to Carver Yachts who moved production to North Carolina.
- In 1995 a new Californian series of modern motor yachts was introduced to replace the company’s aging fleet of trawlers.
- Over the years Californian models earned a good reputation in the industry for their above-average construction standards, quality components, and consistent resale values.
