The Beneteau 473 combines extraordinary interior comfort, volume and light with bluewater strength. You will find that the 473 boasts more features and creature comforts than ever before built in a boat this size.
With the Bénéteau shipyard,we decided, with Océanis Clipper 473, to create a cruising boat specially for long trip, easy to use everywhere.
The hull of Océanis 473 has the same qualities as those of Océanis 411: stability of shape, stability of progress, balance when heeling.
Two drafts are proposed: 1m70 and 2m10. 2,10m give qualities of progress better to all the points of sail.
The sail workings return in the cockpit. It makes the operation and the control of the boat very easy.

Beneteau 473 by George Day Blue Water Sailing April 2001
REDEFINING THE FAMILY PASSAGEMAKER
The new Beneteau 473 brings Finot style and production efficiencies to a new-model generation of coastal and offshore cruisers
A plumb, narrow bow, straight rising sheer, massive beam and broad transom with a long smooth run aft… These are design attributes you’d begin to look for in a modern offshore racing boat reminiscent of the world-circling Open 60s that are, as we write, finishing the 27,000-mile Vendée Globe race.

Is a Beneteau Oceanis 473 the future S/V DATSARIOT?
SJ has been very busy and has not been able to get any time to write about the Annapolis Sailboat show. Since then we have been focusing on sailboats that might become options for the future S/V DATSARIOT.
A few weeks ago, we toured a Beneteau 473 and were really impressed. The styling is classic and the functionality is practical for our family of four desiring to cruise in the bluewater. The draft is only 5’7” which is great for shallow water cruising as well.
The 47 foot long 2002 Oceanis 473 that we toured is in great shape. The asking price was $219,900. We really need to sell that house! She was a three cabin owners version with a 76HP Yanmar diesel engine. Cruising speed reported at around 8.5 knots and top speed around 9 knots. She carries 222 gallons of water and 57 gallons of diesel.

The production cruisers over $200,000 include the luxuriously appointed Tartan 3500, the sleek Beneteau 473, and the spacious Bavaria 50. The prize is this cateogory goes to a design from Groupe Finot, a well-engineered boat with remarkable value: the Beneteau 473, now built in France’s Vendée region but soon to be produced in Marion, South Carolina.

Beneteau Oceanis Clipper 473 (January 2002)
Beneteau’s latest cruising model is as capable of taking on those wide blue spaces as it is suited to harbour social sailing
Happy is probably an understatement of the way the owners of this test yacht feel about their new boat. Having previously owned and loved the distinctive timber sloop Helmsman for 18 years, their decision to buy a Beneteau was clearly not taken lightly.
Equally evident, during the course of this test sail, was the couple’s pleasure in their new boat’s amenities, sailing performance and cruising potential.

Beneteau 473
January 2001 By Robert H. Perry Boats and Gear
Family cruiserr
I saw this boat at the Annapolis boat show. I couldn’t walk by without thinking what a great looking boat it was. One of my cronies said he couldn’t walk by without thinking how ugly it was. There you have it, different tastes. I thought the boat had a strong, masculine look and while not on the pretty side, was aesthetically well integrated and well done. It certainly has a look of its own and not just a “unique” look bordering on plain weird like some novel efforts. The designer of this boat is Groupe Finot. In profile this boat reminds me of one of my own older designs, the Norseman 447.
