Freedom Yachts was founded in 1962 in Middletown, RI and designed many state of the art sailboats. They set out to pioneer a new design for sailboat and yacht production. Freedom was best known for their out of the box designs with the freestanding rig. This allowed for better control and steering capabilities. In addition to the new technology in rigging, Freedom Yachts boast a wide variety of technological advances. Their hulls were very sturdy yet lightweight by using fiberglass sandwich with balsa as the core.
