Cabo Yachts Overview

Cabo Yachts was founded in 1991 by Henry Mohrschladt and Mike Howarth in Adelanto, California, originally operating under the corporate entity Cat Harbor Boats. Mohrschladt and Howarth brought significant fiberglass manufacturing experience from their success building Pacific Seacraft sailboats. Cabo Yachts rapidly established an iconic industry reputation by prioritizing heavy offshore capability, clean execution, meticulous electrical wiring, and exceptional “purpose-built” hull designs specifically engineered for serious sportfishing tournament demands.

The brand’s first major launch, the Cabo 35 Flybridge, became an immediate benchmark for engineering standards in its class. In February 2006, Brunswick Corporation acquired Cabo Yachts to fill strategic “white space” within its Hatteras Collection, integrating it alongside Albemarle and Hatteras to capture the high-end inboard sportfishing segment. Production was subsequently shifted from the original California facility to New Bern, North Carolina, in 2010 to share production infrastructure with Hatteras.

Amid shifting global economic conditions and declining demand for dedicated inboard express fishboats, Brunswick ceased new Cabo production in 2013. The brand experienced a brief, highly anticipated revival under Versa Capital Management (then-owners of Hatteras/Cabo) with the introduction of the Cabo 41 Express in late 2019 and 2020. While active manufacturing is currently paused, the brand retains immense consumer equity and remains highly competitive on the secondary brokerage market.
