Torqeedo Electric Engine Package
After nearly two months of active demo use and trouble-free operation, we’re pleased to confirm the Torqeedo Cruise 4.0 package as the J/9 electric engine option. We’ve found the engine to be quiet, reliable, and easy to manage. In calm conditions, the range is 20 miles at 5 knots (4 hours),
30+ miles at 4 knots, and approx. 12 miles at 6 knots. Top speed is about 6.5 knots. There is a cockpit display to show the remaining battery %, time, and power draw plus a very convenient phone app that connects wirelessly to display all the data simultaneously. We were impressed to see that even in 4 knots of wind, having the mainsail hoisted and trimmed added several miles to the engine range. See the J/9 configuration diagram below which includes a Flexofold two-blade folding prop and a sleek, low-profile throttle.
The throttle, display and on/off button are installed in the cockpit on the aft, starboard vertical. The engine battery is centralized under the companionway step, just in front of the pod drive. The dedicated battery switch is on the vertical bunk face of the port settee. The battery charger is mounted on the aft face of the aft bulkhead, just inside the starboard cockpit locker. The Torqeedo charger has a built-in galvanic isolator and can be plugged directly into a 30amp dockside outlet (with the provided Marinco pigtail with built-in GFCI protection). The current shore power option is dedicated to the separate 12-volt house battery.
V-Berth Package
To further dress up the V-berth package, we’ve added a forward bulkhead covering, two hull side storage bags, and a stainless bar with mesh divider (not pictured yet) between the port aft end of the berth and the head.
Flexiteek Cockpit and Aft Swim Platform
The Flexiteek cockpit floor looks fantastic! Everyone has mistaken it for the real thing and it feels great underfoot. On hull #1 we added another Flexiteek section on the short riser at the front of the cockpit to accentuate the length of the cockpit. This is now part of the standard option.
Comfort Group
After testing several cockpit cushions for comfort and durability, we’ve upgraded the cushion specification in the Comfort Group Option to include a four-piece set with a choice of either white vinyl with dry fast foam and mesh bottom; or Sunbrella with dry fast foam and mesh bottom.
