The Excess 13 Catamaran has made serious waves in the sailing world, now made official by an award-winning international debut. Designed for sailors who crave open-water thrills without sacrificing modern comfort, the Excess 13 is the new flagship of the Excess range and a true reflection of what performance cruising should look like in 2025.

Here’s what you need to know about the Excess 13, starting with awards, specs, and layouts, then a compilation of reviews and walkthrough videos.

Award Winning Design

NAVAL ARCHITECT: Marc Lombard Yacht Design

INTERIOR and DECK DESIGNS: Piaton Yacht Design

“Our goal was to create a balanced, reliable catamaran offering great sensations, combined with the comfort and interior volume that define Excess”

WINNER: SAIL Magazine – Top 10 Boats of 2026

Reviewed by Zuzana Prochazka, January 8, 2026 “The third model in the line serves up rip-roaring performance that’s hard to forget.”

In testing, the Excess 13 posted double-digit speeds in strong breeze, pointed unusually high for a cruising cat, and remained light and responsive at the helm thanks to its direct steering and efficient sail plan. Just as important, Prochazka notes that the boat delivers this excitement without being demanding – intuitive, forgiving, and confidence-inspiring, making it the standout sailing experience of the entire Top 10 test week.

“She’s intuitive and forgiving rather than twitchy and demanding like some high-performance cats. Our test sail on the Excess 13 was, hands-down, the highlight of a week of sailing lots of great new boats.”

WINNER: Multihull of the Year 2025 – IMS Premier

“The Lombard design team has been at work here, in collaboration with Jean Marc Piaton for the interior design. We discovered a nacelle of contained volume (as evidenced by the very wide side-decks), a galley that opens onto the cockpit, and fold-down sugarscoops. We like the futuristic design of the davits and the imposing span of the folding helm seats and the airy design of their protective biminis. Also noteworthy is a water recovery system on the coachroof, easy-access circuit breakers (at last) in a dedicated locker, and cabin doors that double as closet doors.”

Murray Yacht Sales – 5 Key Takeaways Aboard the Excess 13 Catamaran – October 9, 2025

In today’s world of remote work and global connectivity, more sailors are blending business with cruising life. The Excess 13 embraces this trend with dedicated spaces for both navigation and work. In the salon, a forward-facing navigation station offers complete control of the boat’s systems, including tanks, breakers, and chartplotter, while also serving as an ideal workstation for those who need to stay connected at sea. It’s a thoughtful response to how modern sailors actually live and cruise.

Cruising World – Excess 13 Unveiled – March 28, 2025

The Excess 13 is designed for ocean passagemaking with increased stowage space, a lightened structure and enhanced sensations under sail… Inside, the light-filled salon has a galley that opens onto the cockpit for an indoor-outdoor experience. One hull is dedicated to owners’ accommodations with a sleeping area, head and dressing room. There’s also a workspace for folks who want to bring the office on board.

Yachting World – A Light & Airy Catamaran For Easy Enjoyment – December 17, 2024

Cruising sailors are either drawn to or put off by aft helms. My impression is that monohull sailors used to direct rudder feedback gravitate towards them (while others used to bulkhead or flybridge helms seek that improved visibility). In the current era, Nautitech and Excess have been leading the charge with aft helm cats, so it is particularly pertinent to see Excess now engaging Marc Lombard Yacht Design’s services for its new Excess 13.

Boating New Zealand – The Pleasure Of Living On Board – November 12, 2024

The Excess 13 catamaran is a statement in balanced design, harmonising luxury with function, and tradition with modernity. Developed in collaboration with VPLP Design and naval architect Eric Levet from Marc Lombard Yacht Design Group, the Excess 13 captures the essence of what it means to sail—and live—on a modern catamaran. Levet describes the vision behind the project as “simple yet ambitious,” aiming to combine smooth, reliable performance with comfort and spacious living. For boaters who yearn for both thrills and ease, the Excess 13 is a dream realised.

Yacht Style – A New Era For Catamaran Design – August 1, 2024

While retaining the asymmetrical hulls for easy gliding, sleek lines and window shapes of previous models, the Excess 13 introduces several structural innovations focused on weight reduction, resulting in a lighter, more responsive vessel.
