Lewmar issued an advisory notice about its deck switches.
Electric deck switches operate in a hostile environment and are subject to salt water, extreme temperatures, direct sunlight and UV rays. They are also susceptible to wear and tear after repeated use and can suffer accidental damage during boat operations, according to the notice.
“It is therefore recommended that regular visual and functional inspection of the switch, the circuitry and the equipment being controlled is carried out by a competent qualified person on a regular basis,” Lewmar said. “If any defects are noted on the switch, replacement is mandatory so as to avoid the possibility of a malfunction.”
Owners can expect a switch to have a service life span of three to five years from the date of purchase, and the switch should be replaced after that, the company said.
