A Brief History (1958 – 2018)
C&C Yachts quickly established a reputation as a builder of high-quality sailing yachts that were also successful on the race course.
1961: C&C started when the two “C’’s got together to start a design business, George Cuthbertson and George Cassian. When they started, they worked with three primary builders, Bruckman in Oakville, Belleville Marine and Hinterholler Yachts in Niagara.
1968: Red Jacket won the SORC.
1969: C&C Yachts was formed by Belleville Marine Yard, Hinterhoeller Ltd., and Bruckmann Manufacturing and created the design firm of Cuthbertson & Cassian Ltd.
1971: Ian Morch of Belleville Marine Yard and the first president, resigned.
1973: George Hinterhoeller resigned.
1976: George Hinterhoeller sold out and went back to boat building on his own, Hinterhoeller & Nonsuch
1979: George Cassian passes away..
1981: George Cuthbertson resigns as president and leaves the company in 1982..
1985: Eric Bruckman, head of the C&C custom shop, leaves.
1986: Brian Rose of North South Charters bought the company as a limited partnership
1990: Goes into receivership.
1992: Anthony Koo and Frank Chow purchases C&C, and changes the name to C&C Yachts International.
1994: C&C 51, the Tripp-designed IMS 45, purchases Gelnn Henderson’s SR range of sport boats. A fire destroyed most of the tooling and the boats currently under construction.
1996: The factory closed the land, tooling, and trademark were sold.
1997: Fairport Marine Company purchased Tartan & C&C Yachts.. The new models were designed by Tim Jackett and included the C&C 99, 110, 115 and 121. The 131 was scheduled to be introduced in 2008 but was never built.
2013: US Watercraft purchasesd the rights to the C&C brand from Tartan. Mark Mills designs the C&C 30 One Design and the Redline 41. US Watercraft entered receivership in July 2017 and ceased all operations by the summer of 2018.
The first three characters of the Hull Identification Number HIN affixed to the transom of the hull designate the manufacturer. This is called the Manufacturers Identification Code, the MIC for C&C is CCY. All manufacturers who historically used CCY: CROFT CRAFT ENTERPRISES LLC- CALDER BUILDING COMPANY (OOB) – C & C YACHTS INC (OOB) – C & C YACHTS LTD (OOB). Now C&C Yachts Ltd. regularly used 2 different ones, ZCC and CCY. ZCC was usually used for boats built in Niagara On The Lake, Ontario, Canada CCY was usually used for boats built in Middleton, Rhode Island.
