Beneteau First 30

Beneteau First 30

Beneteau’s new First 30 introduces the “planing cruiser” concept, aiming to deliver a full cruising experience in a smaller boat. Developed in partnership with Seascape, the design prioritizes ease of use and speed. Seascape CEO Andraz Mihelin notes that modern sailing emphasizes connecting with nature and enjoying time with loved ones, rather than solely racing.

The First 30 is designed for quick planing and easy management at speed, even with a small crew. It features low loads, a simple rig, and an uncluttered cockpit. While not a racer-cruiser, it offers two cockpit layouts: one for cruisers and day sailors, and another for racers, which includes a mainsail traveler and additional trim controls.

Beneteau Oceanis 47

Beneteau Oceanis 47

The Oceanis 47 and its sister ship, the Oceanis 52, mark the beginning of a new generation in the Oceanis line. These models are designed for long-range cruising, achieving a balance of performance, comfort, and innovation, thanks to extensive customer feedback and detailed analysis of onboard usage.

Key features include a full beam that extends all the way aft, creating a more spacious cockpit. Split cockpit tables provide easy fore and aft access, while sunpads on either side of the companionway offer ample space for socializing.  Aggressive chines ensure nimble handling while maximizing interior volume below deck. Owners can choose between an open transom or a full-beam seating area with a grill aft.

Below deck, the interior boasts a warm and bright aesthetic, featuring double rows of windows. This design is a welcome departure from the spartan look prevalent in many new boats in recent years.

Beneteau Oceanis 52

Beneteau Oceanis 52

The Biscontini-Nauta-designed Oceanis 52, while sharing many characteristics with the 47, significantly benefits from its additional five feet, allowing for enhanced features. The cockpit, for instance, boasts adjustable-height tables flanked by C-shaped benches, creating an inviting atmosphere for meals. The aft seating, lacking a backrest, offers a convenient spot to socialize with the helmsman. To improve accessibility during simultaneous use, the primary and secondary winches are separated. Maneuvering is made easy with a self-tacking jib. For those seeking a performance boost, a First Line version is available, featuring a taller mast and an overlapping genoa. Below deck, the spacious interior includes an aft-facing chart table to port with a bench seat, overlooking the galley, and a more conventional salon table setup to starboard.

Excess 13

Excess 13

The Excess 13, designed by Mark Lombard YDG and the in-house team (a departure from VPLP and Patrick Le Quément of the first generation), is a genuine cruiser’s vessel built for ultimate on-water comfort and enjoyment. It maintains the modern, aggressive lines of previous Excess models. Like its predecessor, the 13 features asymmetric hulls with finer beams below the waterline, optimizing performance and expanding living space. Despite being packed with features within its 42 feet, designers focused on keeping the boat light and responsive. The living area impressively resembles a chic apartment, offering relatively spacious cabins (three or four, sleeping six to twelve) and an optional office alongside the well-appointed navigation station. The helms are positioned aft and outboard, providing clear visibility down one side deck at a time, and a freestanding weather shade protects them from excessive sun or rain.

J/7

J/7

With years of experience and valuable owner feedback, J/boats continues to innovate, as seen in their latest offering, the J/7. This family-oriented daysailer features a modern cockpit, comfortably seating four adults on one side—a design reminiscent of the J/70 but enhanced by ergonomic molded seats inspired by its sibling, the J/9. This spaciousness not only makes it easy to move around but also enhances comfort while onboard.

The J/7 boasts impressive stability, thanks to its 46% ballast-to-displacement ratio and 3.8-foot draft. This means a 1,050-pound lead keel on a 2,300-pound boat, ensuring steady performance both underway and at anchor, and maintaining speed through maneuvers. The slightly raised sole aft by the transom creates a secure-feeling cockpit while still providing the advantages of an open transom, including a perfect swim platform with the optional swim ladder.

J/36

J/36

The J/36 boasts a refined deck, cockpit, and styling, building upon the successful hull of the 2016 J/112E. Its refreshed deck features twin helms, an open transom for easy boarding, and comfortable cockpit seating. Sail controls are strategically placed, with essential controls led aft and main controls within easy reach of the helm for solo sailing.

The design prioritizes onboard security through features like clear visibility from the helm, accessible sail controls, and a more stable motion. Plentiful and well-placed foot braces and handholds further enhance safety. Belowdecks, the layout offers two cabins and an aft head. Stepped double rows of windows on each side maximize natural light and create a spacious feel, complementing the warm and clean styling.
